MCAC Volleyball: Players-of-the-Week

As volleyball student-athletes from around the Minnesota College Athletic Conference look towards the quickly-approaching post-season, several individuals turned in impressive performances for their teams over the week of October 1-8.  The best of those efforts have earned "Player-of-the-Week" awards from the MCAC volleyball ranks.

 Sydney Hovland

Fr. / Setter

Underwood, MN

M State-Fergus Falls had only one match over the week of October 1-7, but freshman setter Sydney Hovland, made it count with an impressive effort passing the volleyball. 

The Underwood, Minnesota product tallied an amazing 42 set assists in a key MCAC South 3-2 win over Ridgewater College on Wednesday, October 3.  With the victory, M State and Ridgewater sit tied at 5-3 in Conference action, with four divisional contests yet to play. 

The Spartans and Hovland will face Oak Hills Christian College at 7pm on Wednesday, October 10. 




Defensive Player-of-the-Week 

 Marriah Janke

So. / OH

South Ridge, MN

Marriah Janke's solid defensive play helped lead Hibbing Community College to a 3-0 week, including two key MCAC Northern Division victories and notching a 3-0 win over NJCAA Division II Gogebic Community College. 

Janke, a sophomore from Alborn, Minnesota, averaged five digs per set, highlighted by a 23-dig effort in a 3-2 win over Rainy River.  She led her team with 17 digs in a 3-0 sweep of ICC and collected another 15 vs. GCC

Hibbing, currently 9-8 overall and 5-4 in the MCAC North, will face Mesabi Range on Tuesday, October 9 at 6:30pm. 









Brenna Dallager


Strathcona, MN


Brenna Dallager, a sophomore at Northland Community & Technical College has earned Hitter-of-the-Week for her efforts leading the Pioneers

Dallager, from Strathcone, Minnesota, had 27 kills over the course of the week and hit for a .308%, .500% and .333% mark in each of NCTC's matches, respectively.  

Northland went 2-1 for the week and currently sit at 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the Northern Division.  NCTC plays this weekend at a tournament at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, North Dakota. 









All-Around Player-of-the-Week 

Paige Wallevand


Henning, Minnesota


Paige Wallevand, a leader for No. 1 Central Lakes College, has been tabbed the All-Around Player-of-the-Week in MCAC Volleyball. 

CLC stretched their recorded to 19-1 overall and 8-0 in the Northern Division, sweeping Northland CTC and Vermilion CC by 3-0 scorelines. 

Wallevand produced 38 assists for a 6.3 per-set average, with 10 kills and only two errors on 22 attempts. Hitting .364% for the week, she also collected 13 digs and two blocks for the Raiders

Central Lakes will face Itasca Community College on Wednesday, October 10 in Grand Rapids. Match-time is set for 6:30pm.
